Capital Transit: Route 90 - Calvert Bridge to 17th St. & Pennsylvania Ave. SE to

Photographs by R. Hill

This page contains pictures of Route 90, starting at Calvert Bridge loop on Calvert St. NW, to 18th St. NW, to U St NW, to Florida Ave. NW, to New Jersey Ave. NW, to Massachusetts Ave. to Union Station, to 1st St. NE to 1st St. SE to Pennsylvania Ave. SE to 17th St. (Barney Circle).

There were originally 59 pictures in this series, which cover the line going from north to south. Several are missing, two are provided courtesy of Don Galt. There is another series of photographs of the Route 92 branch to Navy Yard, that route stays on Florida Ave. at New Jersey Ave. NW.

These pictures are a wonderful change from the normal fan pictures, which were three-quarter views of the streetcars. As you can see, these pictures are pretty useless for modeling the streetcars. But they are facsinating as a document of a slice of Washington in 1962, documenting the whole trolley line, not just a few streetcars.
