This page contains pictures of the eastern part of Route 40, from 5th Street near F Street Northwest, where it diverges from Route 42, to Lincoln Park in Northeast Washington. Most were taken on December 1, 1961, although some were taken earlier.
There were originally 21 pictures in this series, which cover the line going from east to west. One is missing.
This set of pictures is a wonderful change from the normal fan pictures which were three-quarter views of the streetcars. As you can see, these pictures are pretty useless for modeling the streetcars. But they are facsinating as a document of a slice of Washington in 1961, documenting the whole trolley line, not just a few streetcars.
